本期是Persuasive Speech,要求是:①说服听众接受一种fact/policy;②演讲时长为5min左右; ③选择性使用视觉辅助物品;
Why Volunteering?
Take out your ID card and get scanned. Open your big mouth. Wait for the deep or maybe not very deep poke. Put on the mask and leave. I believe that those are the exact steps you are now experiencing every day. The staff in the sheds, also known as BIGWHITE, are all volunteers from different colleges. In fact, there are a wide range of voluntary activities around our campus, even outside the school. As a three-star volunteer in Beijing Volunteer Service Federation, I’ve done some research and concluded a message—since every student has registered in BVF, it is high time that we took part in volunteering. In order to explain clearly, I will discuss about the importance and potential benefits of volunteering.
To begin with, volunteering can certify the credits. On the official website, the School League Committee announced almost 370 students who submitted their voluntary materials this semester can gain 2 credits. If you don’t know what it is, please pay attention. According to the current cultivation plan in CAU, every undergraduate should complete 1.5 credits in the practical education, which involves volunteering. Unlike other projects such as social practice, volunteering doesn’t require a long and complete period of time and it contains various types of amusing activities. Therefore, volunteering is the easiest one and plays a vital role in your successful graduation.
In addition, volunteering can add scores in the yearly comprehensive evaluation. I studied the comprehensive evaluation schemes from different colleges and came to a conclusion that volunteering experience is estimated in almost every college. Let’s take 2 colleges for example. College of Economics and Management sets 220 hours as the upper limit, which accounts for 25 scores. Also, College of Engineering sets 80 hours as the upper limit, which accounts for 20 scores. If you neglect enough volunteering hours, plenty of scores will slip away, and the future regret will be useless.
If you’re still not interested, please hear me out, and then make your decision. First, some specific volunteering activities in CAU, such as Fighting-COVID and Beijing International Fair for Trade, will issue certificates. Last year, I helped the students and faculty inject vaccines and received a certificate, which has sentimental value for me.
Second, being a high star volunteer is a bonus item when applying for public functionary. As is known to all, civil servants are becoming an increasingly popular choice when it comes to the employment of college students, resulting in a fierce competition for posts. In 2021, the CNR News reported that volunteer service will be included in the examination of civil servants. So, active participation in volunteering can add luster to your personal profile.
In conclusion, volunteering is good for the overall development. The importance lies in the educational credits and comprehensive evaluation. Apart from the certificates and resume advantages, the rest benefits are waiting to be found. As I said before, we now need to take nucleic acid every day, but there is a decrease in the number of BIGWHITE. So, why not give it a try? Maybe next time I can identify you in the shed and say hi to you.
Thank You!
PS:全稿大概530词,最后用时4min出头。这次因为改线上了,没用PPT(毕竟线下的效果都不一定好)。
