story of winstone

Hi Victor, It was still running version 5.5 of
Tomcat and I do not like much in contrast was so Winstone
simple and lightweight. Tomcat 6 and then left it seemed that finally
have simplified things, and quite robust as this, I went
this option because it is comfortable for both developing and
production. The integration with Eclipse to debug using the plugin
Sysde was another important point.

On the other hand, although I liked Winstone at the time and
collaborate with the project, is not a project that seems to be very
active. Remains an alternative if you need an example
servlet engine in a mobile or something like that, but not used in
production instead of Tomcat 6.

Rick Knowless, the creator of Winstone, did a great job, single,
alternating with freelance work in Japan, it was time to
develop the product, which was very active for about 2 years and
both. But judging by the limited movement that has lately,
I would say the interest in it has disappeared and the project
appears to be half dead, but abandoned. Your SourceForge
is full of spam messages and almost no product in the
recent months. Bad sign.

Another very promising project, but it was abandoned, it McKoi
Database Engine, which is also supported from the beginning of
framework, promised to revive the 2008 and nothing happened.
Unfortunately the financial muscle needed to maintain these
projects is not easy, and not all have it but have had a
good start. And that impressed until McKoi people from NASA. Is
at least two institutions in Venezuela using the McKoi
2004, 7x24, and not given any maintenance databases
and still running ...

Anyway, that's the story with Winstone.

Greetings,
Martin
